We recently asked our founder, Hannah, a question we love to ask around here:
“If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?”
You might expect advice about business shortcuts, big career leaps, or even skipping the hard stuff. But Hannah’s answer was something beautifully unexpected—and totally on brand:
“Honestly, there’s nothing I would go back and warn my younger self about when it comes to my career. Every job, every step along the way has been a valuable learning experience that led me here.”
From selling mushrooms at farmers markets as a teen to managing apparel, planning events, and working with growers in the agriculture industry—every chapter in Hannah’s journey has shaped what Mulberry Market Co. is today.
Hannah - Owner and Founder of Mulberry Market Co.
Here’s a peek at how it all added up:
-
Hunter's Creek Hunt Club taught her the magic of events, hospitality, and ordering for a retail space.
-
Bald Mountain Mushrooms gave her a deep understanding of markets—and the confidence to start selling her own jam.
-
Helena Chemical gave her firsthand experience with sales, seasons, and service—all crucial to running a business rooted in relationships.
-
Allsport pulled back the curtain on shipping, receiving, inventory, and the behind-the-scenes magic of boutique retail.
What’s most powerful about her story is this: Nothing was wasted.
Even the jobs that seemed disconnected were building blocks for what came next.
“If I had told myself to skip college and go straight to opening my own store, I would’ve missed out on so much growth and real-world experience.”
And perhaps most relatable of all?
“If I could tell my younger self one thing, it wouldn’t even be about work—I’d probably just say, ‘Be a little nicer to your parents.’”
Hannah’s journey reminds us that success doesn’t always start with a big idea or business plan—it starts with showing up, learning, growing, and being willing to take the next right step.
So wherever you are on your own path—whether you're just beginning or deep in the messy middle—trust that it’s leading somewhere good.
We’re so glad it led her here.
